Modified Bitumen
Modified Bitumen is one of the most trusted flat roofing systems used in the industry today.

Modified Bitumen flat roofing is an asphalt-based roofing system designed for flat and low-slope roofs.

Synthetic polymers are added to create elasticity especially in cold temperatures. It has numerous surface options and colours. It has proven record of performance and waterproofing.

Modified Bitumen can be applied hot, with a torched cap application or as a self adhering peel and stick (flameless) application.

The frame work for Modified Bitumen is a five-layer combination of roofing components:
  • Insulation – Used to provide thermal resistance for temperature stability of the roof system
  • Modified Base
  • Modified Bitumen Membranes – Factory fabricated sheet membrane composed of copolymer reinforced with polyester or fiberglass
  • Adhesive – Waterproofing material with a bonding agent applied either hot or cold
  • Surfacing – Provides UV protection and weather resistance

Axcess Roofing is committed to using the highest quality products to ensure the highest quality work. For our traditional torch down applications, we choose to work with products by Bakor.
It is durable enough to stand up to the most extreme Canadian weather, a Modified Bitumen is also fire resistant.

What is TPO?

TPO is a type of single ply roofing membrane. TPO is an acronym that stands for Thermoplastic Polyolefin. It is an abbreviated way of stating the primary chemical composition of the roof membrane.
TPO Characteristics:

  • TPO Roofing is a single-ply thermoplastic membrane. It is installed in a single membrane application without multiple layers.

  • The membrane can be installed using several different methods including mechanically attached, adhered, ballasted and plate bonded.

  • TPO membranes come in a variety colors, but primarily are available in white, grey and tan.

  • TPO seams and flashings are completed using hot-air welding equipment.

  • TPO membranes are grease resistant.

  • TPO roofing membranes receive high wind ratings when installed according to pre-tested assemblies as per manufacturer specifications.

  • As of 2020, TPO is still a relatively new product in the market, so its longevity is largely untested. Moreover, manufacturers are still working out bugs in the technology.
What is EPDM?
EPDM is an elastomeric compound that is manufactured from ethylene, propylene, and a small amount of diene monomer. These ingredients are synthesized to produce a product that exhibits a high degree of ozone, ultraviolet, weathering and abrasion resistance, and outstanding low temperature flexibility. These ingredients also contribute to resistance to acids, alkalis, and oxygenated solvents (i.e., ketones, esters, and alcohols).
How can the performance of EPDM be gauged over the last 40 years?

With over 1 billion square feet of membrane installed worldwide, EPDM has established itself as the membrane for all climatic conditions. This is supported by various laboratory studies and actual field installations. This excellent track record is the result of unique and unmatched physical characteristics:
• EPDM has superior resistance to UV (ultraviolet) radiation;
• EPDM has unmatched resistance to thermal shock;
• EPDM exhibits superior resistance to cyclic fatigue;
• EPDM has superior resistance to hail damage;
• EPDM will not become brittle and will not shatter due to low temperature flexibility.
